Adding VFD and Increasing Control Band Extend Rooftop Unit Lifespan up to 40%
Adding variable frequency drives (VFDs) to the indoor fan and compressors, combined with increasing the temperature control band, can have a substantial impact on reducing cycling and extending the lifespan of a rooftop unit (RTU).
Digi-RTU 4.0 Released
Digi-RTU4.0 technology demonstration is implemented to total fourteen (14) units at six (6) gas stations and fast-food restaurants located in Omaha, NE between November 2023 and February 2024. Table 1 summarizes the site and unit information. The system performance is monitored with Digi-SBM remote monitoring system after the Digi-RTU4.0 is installed. This report presents the overview of Digi-RTU4.0 technology and the demonstration results.
Digi-RTU Saved 825,000 kWh/yr
The facility located in Orlando, FL has sixty-seven (67) rooftop units (RTU) with a total cooling capacity of 1,331 tons. Bes-tech proposed to install Digi- RTU optimizers for the compressor and indoor fans with the objective of improving the indoor temperature control and reducing building energy consumption.
Digi-RTU Reduced 1,200,000 kWh/yr
The 242,000 square foot building primarily consists of production areas with some office and ancillary spaces. A total of twenty-one (21) Roof Top Units (RTU) serve the building. The total cooling capacity for these units is 1,094.5 tons.
Digi-RTU Saved 2,100,000 kWh/yr
The facility located in Texas has 108 rooftop units (RTU) with a total cooling capacity of 1,955 tons. BES-Tech proposed to install Digi- RTU optimizers for the compressor and indoor fans with the objective of improving the indoor humidity control and reducing building energy consumption.
Digi-CRAC Reduced CRAC Energy 34%
- Installed the Digi-CRAC Optimizer on each Liebert Air Conditioning Unit.
- Implemented Bes-Tech Digi-CRAC Control Technology.
Digi-CRAC Reduced CRAC Energy 46%
The data center located in NJ, has two switch rooms. Each switch room is served by six (6) 22-ton Liebert CRAC units. Digi-CRAC and Digi-CFC controllers including VFDs were installed for the six units in switch room1. This report summarizes the findings of the second test approved by the network team. This test was approved by the network team and conducted to ensure the accuracy of data collected.
Digi-DXR Reduced Refrigeration Energy 35%
Since August 2024, the Digi-DXR system has been successfully implemented in two refrigeration systems at a poultry processing plant:
- System A: Equipped with two SW1L5000-L4 compressors, each rated at 37 kW, featuring three-step slide valves.
- System B: Equipped with two SWL7000-L4 compressors, each rated at 52 kW, also with three-step slide valves.
The facility maintains a constant space temperature of 0°F, operating 24/7, with hourly variable utility rates.
Digi-DXR Reduced Refrigeration Energy 31%
This project showcases a typical fruit storage application for a large fruit distribution company. The demonstration system, located in a hot climate, is designed to maintain a space temperature of 40°F. It utilizes a Bitzer reciprocating compressor (model 4PES-15-40P) with a rated power input of 11.4 kW, and the evaporators are equipped with electrical defrosting.
